Kentucky Bonfire

December 5, 2015 by Penny Leave a Comment

This drink from the 2015 holiday issue of the Food & Drink magazine was a huge hit with friends at our last get together.  I usually don’t drink much bourbon anymore (may have to do with the fact that I drank too much of it in my 20’s) but I loved the combination of bourbon and port in this cocktail.  Also, the Prosecco keeps this drink light and great for sipping at parties. This drink is meant to be on the sweet side but you can always play around with the amount of lemon juice and simple syrup to adjust it to your taste.

Cheers!

Ingredients
  • 1 ounce bourbon
  • 1 ounce port
  • 1 ounce lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 ounce simple syrup (see below)
  • 4 ounces Prosecco
  • Dash of bitters
Instructions
  1. Fill a large bourbon, cognac or wine glass with ice. Add all the ingredients and garnish with a slice of lemon. Enjoy!
  2. For the simple syrup, combine equal parts water and white sugar in a saucepan. Heat the mixture, occasionally stirring until the sugar has fully dissolved. Stores well in the fridge for a week or more.
